ANGELS’ DREAMS is the Art project of award-winning artist Mickaël Couturier, using over 48,000 PIECES OF PLASTIC picked up from the beaches and rivers of Bali. These ONE-OF-A-KIND, NEVER-DONE-BEFORE ARTWORKS, tell the story of the scavenger kids of Suwung, who live at the foot of a giant trash mountain.

A THOUSAND STORIES
TOLD AT AN EPIC SCALE
The artworks can be as large as 4 by 3 meters and take OVER 300 HOURS TO CREATE, some of them have been years in the making. Like Impressionist Art, you have to take a step back to truly appreciate them, but IT’S IN THE DETAILS THAT THE ARTWORK REALLY COMES TO LIFE. The salt-eaten textures of the sandals that have been worn by thousands of strangers ARE ALIVE and tell a thousand stories.

Each piece features AUGMENTED REALITY, with the children “coming to life” as you pass your phone in front of the artwork.
You will hear their dreams IN THE KIDS OWN VOICES, accompanied by a piano melody written and performed by Mickaël.

TRASH PICKERS & PLASTIC POLLUTION
Egi, 7 years old climbs the giant trash mountain to scavenge plastic
Mickaël has been dedicating the past 4 years to assisting the children of Suwung, a trash-pickers community on the east coast of Bali, WHO LITERALLY LIVE IN TRASH, at the foot of a 40m high giant trash mountain. More Info here
By purchasing a piece of art you are CONTRIBUTING TO CHANGING LIVES, and raising awareness about the alarming level of plastic pollution in Indonesia, 2nd largest ocean polluter in the world.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Originally from the south of France, Mickaël studied at “Les Beaux Arts” the most prestigious French Art school. He is an accomplished graphic artist but also FILMMAKER, PHOTOGRAPHER, WRITER, MUSIC COMPOSER AND POET. His passion for music got him to join several bands as a singer/songwriter that received moderate success in the UK and even gained a top 03 in the Icelandic charts.
Mickaël enjoys experimenting with different art mediums, including drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, sculpture, and… plastic! He seeks beauty but is not attached to the form: It’s ALL ABOUT TELLING A MEANINGFUL STORY AND EXPRESSING EMOTIONS while using the right tool at the right time. Film has been an important part of this mission because it seamlessly combines visual, musical, and narrative elements. He has produced several movies (fiction and documentaries) that received critical acclaim, RECEIVING NUMEROUS AWARDS & BEING SCREENED AT OVER 100 FESTIVALS IN 34 COUNTRIES (including major festivals such as Cannes and LA Short Fest).
For Mickaël , Art is more than a hobby or a job; it is A TOOL FOR EXPRESSING DEEP EMOTIONS, INSPIRING OTHERS, AND ULTIMATELY CREATING A BETTER WORLD. He has dedicated the past four years to helping the children of Suwung by contributing to bringing them daily meals, clean water and education.
WORKSHOPS
EMPOWERING CHILDREN FROM BOTH WORLDS
Mickaël is conducting weekly workshops to create art with recycled plastic with the children of Suwung, but also with students from “privileged schools”. He hopes that one day, some of them will become ambassadors of their own cause and that CHILDREN FROM BOTH WORLDS WILL COME TOGETHER TO CREATE A CLEANER AND MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE.
